Draft Proposal for POGO

[edit] Purpose
The Parents of Gailer Organization (POGO ) shall support the operational and community needs of the Gaiter School. POGO shall consist of any parent whose children currently attend the Gaiter School, and those enrolled to attend the coming school year. All parents are expected to actively participate to the best of their ability in several aspects of the Gaiter community, including attending POGO meetings, volunteering at POGO functions, and supporting the school's financial and operational needs as they arise.
POGO shall hold an annual meeting in September of each year to nominate and elect an executive committee. The executive committee shall consist of a chair (or co-chairs) and committee heads. Standing committees are: Education, Special Events, Fundraising, and Family Liaison. The Board of Trustees of the Gaiter School can appoint other ad hoc committees as they see fit. The Chair (or co-chair) of POGO shall serve as the liaison to the Board of Trustees and is expected to attend monthly meetings of the Board of Trustees. The Academic Director or the Board of Trustees shall approve all activities of the POGO in advance.
The Chair(s) of the POGO shall ensure that the organization fulfills its responsibilities annually. The chair shall be an ad hoc member of each standing committee, and shall report the activities of the POGO to the Academic Director and the Board of Trustees monthly. The chair shall actively seek to enhance the role of all parents as active and engaged participants in the Gaiter School community through organizing timely meetings, supporting the activities of each committee, and communicating with the Academic Director, Director of Student Life, Director of Development, and Office Manager on a routine basis.
[edit] Standing Committee Descriptions
Education: The purpose of the Education Committee is to provide a forum for the exchange of information and discussion among parents of topics relevant to education, child-rearing, and the mission of the Gaiter School. The Education Committee shall organize and present programs to the Gaiter community (such as a speaker series ) and develop a series of evenings of topical discussion among parents or students or both. Programs may or may not be open to the public. This committee shall work closely with the Academic Director.
Special Events: The purpose of the Special Events Committee is to organize and execute the following: Grandparents' Day Luncheon, Founders' Day Luncheon, School Dances as determined by the Dean of Students ), Recognition Day and Graduation Day Reception ( and to provide support with decorating, set up, clean up, etc- as needed ), and other special events that may come up In addition, the special events committee shall organize a September back-to-school picnic and provide help for Kingsland Bay days and other student events. This committee shall interface with the Academic Director, Director of Development, Director of Student Life or the Office Manager to organize volunteers and assign tasks.
Fundraising: The purpose of the Fundraising Committee is to organize events to raise funds for the school's scholarship fund, international programs, and other areas as needed. The following events are annual events: January Goods and Services Auction, April Annual Gala and DaVinci birthday celebration. This committee shall interface with the Director of Development.
Family Liaison: The purpose of this committee is to ensure community connections through connecting new families with a "host" or welcoming family in the same DV, connecting traveling students and their families with a more local family who will care for the student, should they miss the bus, be snowed in, etc. This committee shall interface with the Director of Admissions.

The POGO is affiliated with the Gailer School, and as such, shall not act independent of the Gailer School administration and board of trustees. All activities of the POGO shall be approved by the Academic Director and/or the board of trustees prior to commencement.
